Furnace or heat pump? Which one is right for you?

Every home and homeowner need is different, but here are some general recommendations that can help you decide.

MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE

Furnaces are best for cold-weather climates because they don’t depend on the outdoor temperatures to convert to heat.

Map of the United States. Northern states colored blue - recommended furnace area. Southern states colored gray recommended heat pump area.
A furnace burns fuel and distributes it throughout the house.
  • Cost Lower unit cost but you’ll have to pair with an air conditioner.
  • Energy Savings Less efficient than heat pumps, but upgrading to an energy efficient model can lower your energy bills.
  • Lifespan Runs less often and has fewer moving parts so it will last longer.
  • Heated air temperature Warm and cozy hot air you can feel.
