American Standard® Diagnostics

What It Is and How To Opt-In

American Standard Diagnostics are a simple and convenient way to help make sure your home comfort systems are running smoothly. With American Standard Diagnostics, you can send data from your HVAC systems to your local dealer. That way, they can remotely access real-time information about your system, which helps them diagnose, fix, and even prevent system issues.

American Standard Diagnostics allows your American Standard smart thermostat to send data directly to your dealer. The result: peace of mind, comfort, and ease.

So, what is American Standard Diagnostics? What will the dealer see?

American Standard Diagnostics lets your dealer take a look at your HVAC system from afar. There are two key concepts related to American Standard Diagnostics that are important to understand:

Remote Diagnostics:

This is what we’ll be talking about for most of this article. It allows your dealer to see basic data from your HVAC system (like runtime information, configuration settings, and alerts). You only need to opt-in one time, and your dealer will have access to your system data indefinitely unless you choose to opt-out.

Remote Access:

Allows your dealer to tap into your HVAC system remotely to troubleshoot or fix problems. This is a feature within the American Standard Diagnostics application, and every time a dealer wants remote access, you’ll need to approve or deny it. Remote access ends once the dealer has finished the job, or you disable access.

A safe, secure connection

Your privacy won’t be compromised when you opt-in to American Standard Diagnostics. Your dealer can only see performance data from your opted-in system, not any other device in your home — even the others connected to our Home app. You can feel confident knowing your data is completely encrypted, secured, and limited to the system you choose to link with American Standard Diagnostics.

From your opted-in system, your dealer will be able to see temperature and humidity statistics, your thermostat’s temperature history, and your system’s temperature scheduling program if you have one. Your dealer will also receive system alerts for things like routine maintenance reminders and system malfunctions. Keep in mind, the amount of data your dealer receives depends on the type of equipment you have.

How to opt-in to remote American Standard Diagnostics

Opting-in to American Standard Diagnostics is easy and fast. You can do it on either the American Standard Home app or webpage. When you purchase an American Standard Heating and Air Conditioning system, and create a Home account, you’ll be given an option to opt-in to American Standard Diagnostics as part of set-up. The box or switch to opt-in to American Standard Diagnostics should be automatically checked, but it isn’t activated until you save the setting. Here’s how it works:

What are the benefits of American Standard Diagnostics?

American Standard Diagnostics helps you get back to comfortable living while offering some other great perks.

Peace of mind for homeowners

Giving your dealer access to your system’s American Standard Diagnostics can reduce anxiety about yet another home maintenance task. Your dealer can see what’s happening on the inside, so you can check it off your to-do list.

Catch potential problems early

With access to American Standard Diagnostics data, your dealer can help catch potential issues and fix them quickly. This helps keep your system in peak performance condition, which can extend its lifespan.

Save time and money

The last thing you probably want when your HVAC system is broken is to be met with a costly bill on top of all your stress. American Standard Diagnostics could help your dealer find the problem before they get there, which can save time and money once they’re at your home.

Contactless service

If you choose to grant remote access, your dealer may be able to fix some issues without ever entering your home. That’s a big deal during the pandemic, especially for people nervous about letting a dealer into their home.

Remote fixes

Granting remote access is always your choice but if you do allow it, the dealer can fix some issues remotely. Dealers can help with things like thermostat-scheduling and configuration problems remotely. This means, if you’ve accidentally set your system’s heating and cooling functions to compete with each other, or your home’s wireless sensor isn't performing correctly, the dealer can work with you to find a solution and reconfigure your system remotely.

Sometimes, remote visits aren’t possible

For both yours and your system’s well being, there are times when a dealer will need to enter your home to fix a problem. For example, if a part of your system malfunctions, your thermostat isn’t working, or your system starts making strange noises, your dealer may need to take a look in person.

The good news is, even in these situations, American Standard® Diagnostics can help speed up the process. Remote American Standard® Diagnostics gives the dealer additional information they need before they arrive at your home, so they’ve likely already pinpointed the issue and can use that as a starting point. No matter what, opting-in to American Standard® Diagnostics will save you time, money, and stress when it comes to your HVAC system.
