American Standard is excited to introduce the HVAC Performance Monitoring Kit and App, designed to help you enhance home comfort while saving money on energy bills and HVAC repairs.
We asked Noah Gates, Product Management Lead, Software, the questions you need answered - how it works, what it costs, and what the homeowner benefits are.
Here are some highlights of our conversation.
What is the HVAC Performance Monitoring Kit?
“The HVAC Performance Monitoring Kit helps homeowners and dealers stay connected to system performance, making it easier to spot issues early, protect comfort, and avoid bigger, more costly problems down the road—across virtually any non-communicating system, regardless of brand or age.”

Benefits of an HVAC remote monitoring system
If you want to keep your HVAC system performing as well as it can, for as long as it can, you’ll like these benefits.
#1: Peace of mind
Using the HVAC Performance app, you can see how your HVAC system is performing whether you’re at home or on vacation. If you have a rental home, you can get a separate kit installed there for even greater peace of mind.
#2: Keep service visits small and scheduled
Performing predictive maintenance helps prevent small issues from snowballing into emergency repairs, saving you money and stress.
#3: Data validation on system issues
You can trust what your American Standard HVAC pro is saying – you’ll receive tangible data to back up the need for HVAC maintenance and HVAC repair visits.
#4: You protect your comfort and your investment
You depend on your heating and air conditioning system to keep your home comfortable. It’s also one of the more complicated and more expensive systems in your home. The HVAC Performance Monitoring Kit helps you maintain comfort by proactively maintaining the HVAC system and minimizing any performance issues.
How does HVAC equipment monitoring work?
The HVAC Performance Monitoring Kit has 8 sensors contained in 2 sensor modules that get installed on the indoor and outdoor units of a standard, non-communicating split system.

These sensors pull data from the HVAC system and transmit it up to an IoT cloud that runs through several algorithms to share simultaneous alerts to you through the HVAC Performance app (available through the App Store and Google Play), as well as to your American Standard dealer through Diagnostics.

What can I see about my HVAC performance?
You can use the HVAC Performance app to see system runtime, energy usage, and air filter health. If something is amiss, the app sends you a push notification alerting you that your system needs maintenance or deeper attention. From the app, you can send a message directly to your American Standard dealer to schedule a service visit, with the alert code already auto-populated into the message so they know what to expect.
What can the dealer see?
Your American Standard dealer sees only what is going on with your HVAC system, at any given moment, as well as performance trends. They also receive an alert for any performance issues.
The sensors send them data on key performance areas including:
- Overall performance metrics
- Temperatures
- Pressures
- Electrical issues
- Airflow
This helps your dealer catch dips in system performance before they snowball into big problems. If an on-site service call is needed, the HVAC technician arrives with more insight than they might otherwise have.
How can the HVAC Performance Monitoring Kit save me money?
“Track your system’s energy use to help keep your home comfortable, efficient, and cost-effective. By spotting changes in performance early, you and your dealer can catch small issues before they turn into bigger, more expensive repairs—helping you avoid unexpected costs and potentially lower your energy bills.”
- Noah Gates, Product Management Lead, Software
Do I need to have an American Standard HVAC system for it to work?
No. You get American Standard HVAC expertise even if you don’t have one of our systems. The HVAC Performance Monitoring Kit works on standard single-stage, two-stage, and multi-speed non-communicating equipment from other brands as well as American Standard HVAC equipment.
Do I need an American Standard smart thermostat?
No. The HVAC equipment monitoring sensors use cellular connectivity, so there’s no need to connect to your wireless network or smart thermostat. “However, the HVAC Performance Monitoring Kit can be used in tandem with an American Standard smart thermostat for even deeper HVAC Diagnostics information that a dealer can see and act on to enhance performance,” Gates said.
What happens if the dealer spots a problem?
If the issue is big enough to trigger an alert, both you and the dealer will receive a notification of the issue. If the issue seems urgent, reach out to your dealer right away. If it’s to schedule regular maintenance, you can expect them to reach out to you to get you on the schedule.
If you have an American Standard smart thermostat and you have enabled Diagnostics, your dealer may be able to solve the problem remotely. Otherwise, the HVAC company will schedule a service visit.
What does the HVAC Performance Monitoring Kit cost?
Downloading the HVAC Performance App is free. Your local American Standard dealer pays for the monitoring kit. Talk to them for details.
How do I know the HVAC Performance Monitoring Kit will work?
Because we tested it in the real world. Through beta testing with real HVAC systems at several homes, we identified early success with the kits and the app. With the help of an internal technician, we tested systems at the homes of Trane Technologies employees to ensure we had full access to the data the dealer sees and what the homeowner sees.
One of our employees was having higher-than-normal energy bills. After installing the HVAC Performance Monitoring Kit with their local dealer and accessing the HVAC Performance app, the individual got an alert that their system was running inefficiently and was using more energy to run than it should be.
They called their local dealer, who discovered there was an issue with one of the settings in the equipment that was causing it to operate inefficiently. The dealer was able to quickly identify and fix the problem. This immediately resulted in better energy efficiency and a lower energy bill the next month.
