By Anne Fonda
Designed to replace the older Gold 824 smart thermostat, the new Gold Smart Thermostat features a sleek, modern design. The quick-touch glass LED touchscreen uses color cues to show if your system is heating or cooling. But it does more than look good. It delivers smart performance and offers intuitive control.
Dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi keeps you connected via the American Standard Home App, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa, so you’re always in control of your HVAC system, from anywhere at any time.
“The Gold Smart Thermostat builds on what homeowners appreciated about the Gold 824 and delivers an updated experience that feels cleaner, smarter, and easier to use.”
- Caitlin Butler, Product Manager, Thermostats and Home App

ENERGY STAR®-certified smart thermostat
The Gold Smart Thermostat is ENERGY STAR®-certified. Third-party certification found it delivers precise temperature control and energy savings. To save the most energy and money, take advantage of customized scheduling and geofencing.
With occupancy sensing and geofencing capabilities, the Gold Smart Thermostat allows you to automate temperature adjustments to match your lifestyle habits.
For more savings, check your utility company’s website. You could be eligible for a rebate if you install a qualified smart thermostat.
Is it compatible with my HVAC system?
Apart from communicating variable-speed systems, the Gold Smart Thermostat is universally compatible with standard 24V single-stage and two-stage HVAC systems of any brand. The Gold Smart Thermostat is a smart HVAC solution if you want to lower your energy bills and like the convenience of remotely controlling your HVAC system. You can control heating, cooling, ventilation, and humidity levels.
System applications
- Gas, oil, electric, hydronic (radiant and forced air furnaces and boilers)
- Conventional AC + furnace: up to 2 cooling stages and 2 heating stages
- Heat pump/dual fuel system: up to 5 heating stages and 2 cooling stages

Better together: Add the Remote Temperature & Humidity Sensor
Designed specifically for use with the Gold Smart Thermostat, this new remote sensor kit can enhance your home comfort in the following ways.
- Reduce hot and cold spots
- Manage up to six sensors from a single thermostat
- No wires needed; stand or wall mount
“For homeowners who notice that one room feels too warm while another feels too cool, remote sensors can make a real difference. The remote sensors help the thermostat respond to what’s happening across more of the home, not just in the hallway or wherever the thermostat happens to be installed. This gives homeowners a more representative view of temperature and humidity across the home and can improve comfort control."

Stay on top of system health with remote monitoring and American Standard Diagnostics
A big benefit of installing the Gold Smart Thermostat instead of a big-name smart thermostat is the integration with American Standard Diagnostics. By opting in via the Home App, you give your local American Standard dealer remote HVAC monitoring capabilities.
Your smart thermostat will send real-time data to your HVAC dealer, allowing them to see performance trends, run time, receive system alerts, and more. In this way, they can spot a small issue before it becomes a big problem. In some cases, if you grant additional permission for Dealer Remote Access (DRA), they can fix the problem remotely. If an in-person repair call is needed, the HVAC technician arrives fully prepared.
And again, this is regardless of your HVAC system brand. You don’t have to have an American Standard HVAC system to take advantage of the benefits of HVAC Diagnostics.
“With American Standard Diagnostics, your system is connected and designed to share performance insights with your dealer so they can spot, diagnose, and often fix issues remotely. That means fewer surprises for the Technician, faster service for the homeowner, and comfort that never takes a day off.”
-Marc Racine, Product Manager, Diagnostics and Tech App

What if I already have the Gold 824 installed?
American Standard will continue to offer support for the Gold 824 smart thermostat, but the product itself will be retired and no longer available for new systems or thermostat replacement. The redesigned Gold Smart Thermostat can be used for an 824 warranty claim.
When should I install a new smart thermostat?
When you replace your HVAC system, installing a new smart thermostat at the same time can help you maximize energy savings and take advantage of all your new system has to offer.
Another great option is if you are remodeling or refreshing your home interior, or when moving into a new home. This new smart thermostat will not only upgrade your technology but will also look modern and sleek on the wall.
Upgrading from a traditional thermostat is also a smart choice. If you’re not happy with your current smart thermostat, you can replace it. The Gold Smart Thermostat is a great choice in any of these situations.
